The SunDay aim

SunDay aims to use ONE DAY to dream – dream of a World, where the energy systems that provide for our wellbeing also provide for the wellbeing of the natural environment – a World where renewable sources of energy are fully exploited!

Some have never heard of this dream, or why it is so significant. But a wide range of people is already working to make the dream come true. SunDay aims to help – by using the summer solstice to spotlight their efforts – and why they matter.

SunDay is a European wide event, which aims to show people all over Europe, how they can utilise the power of the Sun. Research and commercial organisations, enthusiasts and multi-national companies all over Europe are participating as part of a programme to publicise the contribution solar energy can make to CO2 reduction and combating the pollution of our environment.

Organisation

SunDay is a network of locally based events held across Europe on a Sunday close to the summer solstice. Events are initiated locally and managed locally.

Individuals and organisations working in the field of renewable energy and /or the environment are invited to organise a relevant event for their region and to register it with SunDay Europe Secretariat.

The local organisers initiate the idea, manage the event and publicise it locally. In some cases a national co-ordinator works successfully to draw together a nation-wide SunDay network. The SunDay Europe Secretariat urges the organisers to inform the secretariat about the event and information will hereafter be available on this homepage under the heading “events”.

All events become part of a Europe-wide network of events, with a minimum amount of co-ordination, support and publicity provided centrally.

The organisation behind SunDay is ISES-Europe

ISES-Europe and the ISES-Europe Secretariat

ISES-Europe is the European Unit of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES), which has existed since the mid 1950’s with the aim to develop and promote the use of renewable energy sources around the world.

The ISES-Europe board, which represents ISES members in nearly every European country, elects a President and Governing Board every two years to manage the activities of ISES-Europe.

The ISES-Europe presidency is for 2005-2006 held by Dr. Despina Serghides from Cyprus.

Among its varied activities – ISES-Europe organises the biennial EuroSun conference. Held in 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland.

ISES-Europe initiated the annual SunDay Europe Event back in 1994.
